We are seeking applicants for the following positions at this time:
Early Years Collaborator
Middle School Collaborator
About our collaborators:
Using the Brightworks arc as a framework for deeply engaged learning, collaborators help children develop their ability to find wonder and delight in the exploration of any topic, to practice working together to turn ideas into reality, and to learn how to communicate what they have done and why. Collaborators are educators who work alongside students in learning and exploration, and serve as models of limitless curiosity, openness to new ideas and experiences, and tenacity in the face of challenges. They maintain focus on the social/emotional tone of the school during the day to create a supportive community where children feel safe, heard, and cared for. Collaborators respect the volition of children in a flexible, child-driven learning environment and allow for the discovery (rather than presentation) of knowledge.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Before submitting application materials, please review our website to become more familiar with our school, staff, and the daily life of our students. Our daily blog gives a window into life at Brightworks, and we encourage candidates to read current and past blog posts to become familiar with our school.
To apply for the position of either Early Years Collaborator or Middle School Collaborator, we ask that Round One applicants remit the following PDF documents by email to hiring AT sfbrightworks.org by May 15, 2012:
While we welcome out-of-town applicants, as a new nonprofit school we are unable to reimburse the cost of any travel associated with the hiring process or candidate relocation.
HIRING TIMELINE
We will invite selected candidates to participate in Round Two of our hiring process. Round Two candidates will receive a more detailed job description, and will be asked to answer written questions to help us get to know each candidate better before the in-person interview.
While we seek to have hiring decisions made before June 1st, 2012, our final decisions will rely on rolling admissions commitments and will be made as soon as possible.
ABOUT BRIGHTWORKS
Brightworks is a school that reimagines K-12 education. By taking the best practices from both early childhood education and hands-on, project-based experiential learning, we strive to meet students' needs in a flexible, mixed-age environment that breaks the traditional walls between school and the community outside the classroom. We offer a broad-spectrum learning environment designed to encourage creative capacity, tenacity, and citizenship. We are completing our first year as a K-7 school. Next year our oldest students will create our first 8th grade, and will expand each year until we become a fully enrolled K-12 school in Fall 2016. Brightworks currently consists of 23 students ages 6-13, 3 collaborators, and 3 administrators, and we are seeking to add two collaborators to our staff next fall to work with our youngest and oldest students.
