Underground Science
The Lapis band continued their exploration of plants by building a see-through planter box. The see-through planter will allow the band to directly observe the different kinds of roots they have been learning about and use it as a teaching tool for others in our community.
The build involved assembling and painting (waterproofing) the planter, calculating its volume, gathering seed and worm-free soil, and using different substrates to mimic naturally occurring soil horizons.
Extending their underground explorations, the students have also planted lima beans.
Each day, they make observations, water their beans as needed, and talk to them.
