evaporation
Salt explorations continue! The Rubber Band began their day with boiling some of their saltwater down to the salt. They then took a peek under the microscope on the big screen and saw salt crystals up close.Jug, a geologist who is an expert in salt in the natural world, came to talk to the Coyotes and the Phantoms about his work and about our mineral in question. (He'll be back to talk to the Sand Leopards and the Rubber Band soon.)The Rubber Band continued their exploration of the day by finishing up their contraptions for either removing salt from water or removing water from salt.Connor worked on the contraption all through lunch and parktime to try and get everything precise to catch the most evaporated water - until the precarious construction fell over! The band was still determined to see the experiment through and will make adjustments to their test. The Coyotes used salt in their watercolors to alter the colors and the patterns of their paintings. The Sand Leopards made farmer's cheese with vinegar and salt.Rubber Band reading time. Some MagnaTile Coyote math based on salt crystal shapes. The Phantoms headed to the main library to find books about evaporation, their next exploration in saltwater. The science lab back at school, full of experiments in the works, and supplies and sun for more.
