handmade market

Today we opened the school day with capoeira, followed by literature circles, a new element of the Brightworks reading program. There are five groups reading one of five books related to Fairness during Exploration: The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip by George Saunders, Matilda by Roald Dahl, The Giver by Lois Lowry, Uglies by Scott Westerfeld, and Little Brother by Cory Doctorow. We discussed the books in our groups, asked questions, found interesting words and ideas, and got excited about the stories.Noah and his family made an incredible lunch of vegetable soup over noodles and meatballs.IMG_3942IMG_3959IMG_3943Everything at Market Day today had to be homemade, and the kids took to this idea with gusto. There were massage parlors, gambling stations, cootie-catcher makers, nail salons, paper flower makers, and chainmail makers.IMG_3966IMG_3970IMG_3971IMG_3974IMG_3733IMG_3731IMG_3738DSCN0563DSCN0560IMG_3741IMG_3973DSCN0549
