Today our artist-in-residence Debi showed the kids an extra-sized knitting machine - made out of arms! - to demonstrate the ways cloth is made. She talked about the difference between fabric that is woven (stiff!) and fabric that is knitted (stretchy!). She'll later demonstrate the inequities found in sweatshops, but today we started with a smaller idea.She's planning to take a small group of kids aside to use all of her "yarn" to make a single piece of fabric this week.
