Celebration of Black Lives & Culture
Led and curated by high school Collaborator Michlene Cotter, this year’s Celebration of Black Life & Culture will take place on February 24th. The day-long event will consist of a school-wide effort to experience Black joy, beauty, and excellence as a method of learning and celebration.
In honor of Black History Month we have reached out to local artists, educators and practitioners to support our Celebration of Black Life & Culture. Our special guest artists for the day include Hip Hop For Change, Karma Smart, and Muriel Johnson. We are thrilled for the opportunity to listen and learn from these amazing artists and individuals.
Alongside our special guests, we will have BWX’s very own Chef Mookie cooking up some delicious gumbo. Collaborators will also set up stations throughout the school where students can also explore and immerse themselves in various aspects of Black Culture. We’re extremely excited for this experience, and we hope you are too!
If you have any interest in volunteering with us for the morning’s activities (10am-12pm), please contact michlene@sfbrightworks.org.
