Spring Gathering & Updates from Leadership
Our Spring Gathering was a wonderful opportunity to come together as a community, see the upper school’s studio demos and break bread together. Thanks to everyone who came out!
Entering Spring, we have been buzzing with science fiction writing, rocket builds and launches, gargoyles, and calculating the distance between planets. Our studios have featured fine arts, improv, BASIC coding, the intersection of math and science fiction, and a science lab internship.
Our students have visited the Exploratorium, Chabot Space & Science Center, and are gearing up for an Outdoor Ed trip to Pigeon Point. We have been busy and engaged.
As you also may have heard... we became the beneficiaries of an amazing gift. This gift is an affirmation of our values of meaningful engagement, trust, curiosity, community, and equity & justice. These monies will ensure the foundation and longevity of Brightworks. Over the next few months, Brightwork leadership and board will develop a strategic plan for earmarking these funds. As always we will continue to listen to the needs of our staff and our community. We will continue to be able to offer a robust tuition assistance program; ours is greater than most independent schools in San Francisco, allocating over $1 million each year to need based tuition assistance.
We will continue to iterate on and develop our core curriculum and STEAM focuses. Quite significantly, these funds will increase our ability to offer professional development training for our faculty and parent education to our community. More to come...
Thank you so much for coming out for the event. Being in community is what we are all about!
Next, some words from our Board Chair, Laura.
~from Laura, Board President
Brightworks is built on innovation, care, and the commitment of our entire community. And thanks to an extraordinary $10 million anonymous gift, our future is more secure than ever, ensuring that this special place will continue to thrive for years to come.
But beyond financial support, what truly makes Brightworks extraordinary is all of you.
One of the things I love most about this community is how much magic comes from collaboration, seeing parents, students, and collaborators coming together to create something bigger than ourselves. Seeing parents helping to build planter boxes, sharing skills with our learners, creating a Little Free Library, and celebrating together is what makes Brightworks feel like home.
For many of us parents, Brightworks is the place where we found our people. If you are new here, or if you’ve been here a while but are looking to engage more deeply, I invite you to get involved.
If you’re excited about an arc and have knowledge, connections, or skills to share, please reach out! So much of the magic of these arcs comes from the wonderful intersections between our community members. And as some of our long-serving FamilyWorks parent volunteers are ready to pass on the torch, now is the perfect time to step in!
Whether you want to help with events, welcome new families, or strengthen our community in other ways, we’d love to have you. And if you have experience in finance, law, or governance and are curious about joining our amazing volunteer board, please reach out!
Thank you for believing in this community, and for all the ways you help shape this incredible place. I can’t wait to see what we build together next.
