Underground Arc Begins!
The Brightworks Arc
The Arc is the fundamental rhythm of a Brightworks education. With two to three major arcs each year, students move through a diverse course of study in a series of intensive immersions, emphasizing depth over breadth, integrating and contextualizing the development of skills and domain knowledge.
The Arc allows students to contextualize their learning in real-world scenarios and connections between ideas, which creates pathways in the brain for longer-lasting learning.
Each arc is framed by a specific topic that each student, kindergarten through high school, approaches at a level and perspective appropriate to their age.
We are diving UNDERGROUND!
In Early Elementary, our students are exploring underground habitats, creating collaborative stories, and investigating the microscopic world!
The Upper Elementary students are coding underground arcade games, writing fiction about animals buried in the pet cemetery.
Our Middle Schoolers are creating sci-fiction escape rooms, experiments about ants and collaborative fantasy books in addition to their studios!
In the High School, learners have engaged in a storytelling project called UNderground, UNsung, UNderrated, UNknown: Lesser Known Black Historical Figures, where they have studied one historical Black figure who may not have received the level of public acclaim that they were due for their contribution to American history. Learners will tell the story of their person utilizing various methodologies of their choosing, including painting, video essay, woodworking, poetry, posters, etc.
