Teamwork Makes the Dream Work ~ Greetings from Dr. Sean

Teamwork makes the dream work

~ a note from Dr. Sean ~

Happy New Year Brightworks Framilies,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the start of the 2024-2025 school year. I hope you and your family have found time this summer to rest and recharge.

On the campus, we completed our faculty on-boarding and full faculty orientation weeks. Our Collaborators and staff diligently prepared for the return of our students. We've also made space to gather and reflect on how we can make our upcoming school year a meaningful and engaging experience at every level. We are inspired and excited by the opportunities the new year will create, allowing for relevant programming and greater consistency for deeper learning. Our returning students have arrived by looking more mature and ready for the new year. Teachers are filled with optimism.

As we embark on this upcoming year, I encourage us all to take a moment to consider our core mission “to reimagine school as a joyful, inclusive, and antiracist learning community where students expand their curiosity and co-author their education through meaningful engagement.”

This year we engaged the faculty on a journey to revisit and share the most impactful strategies for student engagement and achievement. We deliver an impactful project-based curriculum, and the “secret sauce” lies in the power of collective teacher efficacy. The belief that we, as a community of educators, are responsible for student growth and success is the top factor in John Hattie’s (2016) book comprising 1500 meta-analyses of factors that influence student achievement.

We had fun learning and sharing about ourselves with each other to begin the year. The same things that we replicated with your children once they arrived this week. The energy of a fresh year was palpable across the bands as I’m sure you will feel from conversations with your children and the imagery shared from our Collaborators. We are looking forward to seeing the thoughtful and creative ways your children will find to embrace and demonstrate their inquisitiveness over the course of this year and we will share more details at the upcoming Back to School night on September 19th.

In community,

Dr. Sean.
